For proficient mission work and pastoral accessibility it was necessary to separate Kermala mission from Pendarnia parish. It was very difficult during the monsoon season for the pastors of Pendarnia to reach Kermala and neighboring catholic Villages. Kermala Parish came in to existence on 9th June 2012. Rev. Fr. Manu John Kalluvalil was appointed the First Parish priest of the Kermala Parish. Fr. Manu John rebuilt the Chapel at Umerti and was blessed on 28th April 2014. Lay missionaries of Don Bosco began their apostolate at Umertti in September 2014.
